For example, tying this to emotional eating... Let's say you've eaten to distract or calm yourself down from anger a few times. 

The handy automation part of your brain says, "Okay this emotion - anger results in this behavior - eating, which results in this outcome - momentary pleasure... cool, I can help her out and automate this process for her." 

Next thing you know, your brain registers the anger trigger and sends a craving for chocolate and you're halfway through a box of cookies on autopilot before your rational brain kicks back in and you realize you have no real idea what just happened!

You didn't even really register the anger to begin with and you grabbed and started eating the cookies on autopilot - that's the power of a habit loop in your craving brain. 

Next, we layer on some guilt and shame for eating the cookies and being so weak and then we say, "Screw it, I already started, might as well eat the whole box", which is followed by, "I already ate the cookies, might as well order pizza and wash it down with a bottle of wine." 

Now you've triggered all the hormonal cravings with the sugar and chemicals in the cookies, set off your Highly Sensitive Brain, you're emotionally eating because you feel guilt and shame about "lacking willpower" and emotionally eating.

Is this a ketogenic plan? Limiting addictive refined carbohydrates is crucial for overcoming hormonal, biological, and emotional, and habitual cravings so this is definately a low to no refined carbohydrate plan. This is not a dogmatic plan however, real life happens and learning to drop the guilt and move effortlessly back into healthy eating is a huge part of taking our power back from food. 

The technical answer is that the ability to move easily into and out of nutritional ketosis is one indicator that your body is restoring hormonal balance. This program is all about balancing your personal craving triggers to be able to tune into your body's unique needs.  

Some women feel so amazing eating keto that they choose to stay in ketosis most of the time. Some women feel better eating lower carbohydrate (but not ketogenic). You'll determine inside the program which approach is best to neutralize your hormonal craving triggers and restore your body to health. 

What if I'm vegetarian? I used to be a raw food vegan so I say this with the utmost love... I am working on a raw vegan program but for now, if you are vegetarian or vegan, please do not sign up, this isn't the program for you.  

I have XYZ health problem, can I join this program? As with any lifestyle change, I ask everyone to check with their doctor. Ask them if it's safe for you to cut out all the crap and junk food and stabilize your system with clean protein and veggies and drink plenty of water. :)  

What about my kids? Mama taking care of herself and becoming healthy is a blessing to the whole family. It certainly won't hurt your family to make the switch from processed packaged foods to whole foods, though they will likely protest in the interim. I suggest that you get their support in YOU changing YOUR health and leave it at that.  

Other than seafood, which my son won't touch, I feed my kids every single recipe I provide for you, plus lots of the other things kids eat. I'd be lying if I said that they eat exactly like I do and it's truly not worth the fight. Once you get the hang of the plan, I'll teach you how to modify most any recipe, you'll have them eating a healthier version of their old favorites in no time.  

And my husband? I've been married for 19 years, and if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that no one wants to be forced into change before they're ready (and in the case of husbands, they should think it's their idea)! We all know that actions speak louder than words, so my suggestion is that you do your thing and let him do his, and I promise, the LESS you nag, the more likely he is to join you when he watches your life transform.
